Well, it sounds like this game is going to allow us to study whatever we are trying to specialize in to gain skill while we are not physically there.

Perhaps it would be a thought to have a physical building for the function of learning.  Perhaps teachers could also reside there.  Guards would be needed since alot of the people studying would be in offline mode and probably quite vulnerable to thieves and murderers.

I would love to build something like this for our settlement.  Perhaps it could become a famous place to study one day if enough expert teachers take up residence there...Ya I'd love to be able to add rooms for quarters etc there.

Any thoughts on something like this?

At the start we will probably be studying in crafting stations, directly in the field (farming, mining, bee keeping) or even at home (scribes and such). With time though, I can see some more specialized building for the teaching of specific crafts. We're probalby not gonna aim for it right at the start cause our priority will probably be survive, but I like the idea of having buildings for learning purposes

I will most likely have my alt join Fennec Academy until I have researched the viking ship, then migrate to Norhiem, so when that happens you can count on at least one interested.

Once I become Mayor I will commission the building of the Great Academy of Norhiem.

So you're already claiming the title of Mayor eh? Are you ready for the responsibility of dealing with other Mayors/Barons in the area?

Basically whoever is Mayor is just a representative of Norhiem because everyone is equal. We do all the planning as a Kinship. So if the Kin agrees to the building, then you can commission.

SHHH... commission.

I'm not claiming anything really, but I will be lobbying for the position. As far as commissioning things though, I imagine I can put that up for someone to build if they want to and have their own land. We've made a lot of assumptions, but I am pretty sure we won't be telling people they can't build things on their own land if they like.

EDIT: To clarify, I'm mostly just lobbying to take care of the clerical stuff involved in being a Mayor. I'm not trying to take over or anything. At least not at first...

True, we will be definitely spending lots of time with OJT...but when I log out at night...will it be safe for me to leave my character out in the open...perhaps just sparring with a training dummy? Well I am not sure how it will work, but from what I read, learning from books is only available until you reach a certain level and then you will be forced to craft actual stuff to gain skill...Hopefully I'm missing a ton of info here!

Psssh! Learning. The gods have given us a world to learn from. From the soils and medicines of Asta to the tides and winds of Sjora and Fifi. Everything we need to know is in front of our own eyes for us to discover and learn from. The world is our teacher, not these....books, in a confined cage such as a building!

(Disclaimer I fully support a school later down the road. this has been an IC reaction brought to you by Arbor...and Pepsi.)

Bugga, came into to sneak a peek at the young lasses, and only old folks mutterin

I do hope the teach-a-friend system works, then we won't need no classroom, besides hard to take young'ns on a ship. The building will sink us like a crowbar faw shaw.
