Transplanting existing characters into CoE

Hello hello

As I mentioned in my intro, I used to be an ESO RP-er and I have two 'main' characters that I have developed during my time in that game - Carielis and Namastii (or Nama for short). I love them both dearly and ideally would like to bring them across into CoE and Norhiem.

Carielis is a normal human, so she will be easy to bring across. However, Nama is elvish (woodelf or Bosmer, to be precise) and also a vampire... so. That really stuff things up, as a) being immortal clashes with the 1-year CoE game cycle, and b) as far as I know, there are no elves in CoE.

She has an enormous backstory and is my main character, so she is immensely precious to me, which is why I am reluctant to just toss out those aspects of her which don't fit and start fresh.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Any thoughts, ideas, commiserations, 'suck-it-up-buttercup' tough love or wise words of wisdom you could share with me?

Hey Kin Amiira,
I wish I could've stuck with ESO, but it wasn't for me.
I believe that being an "elf" won't be a problem in CoE, if you go back to some of the character creation Dev journals and Q&A, Caspian explains that while the different races aren't explicitly called "elves" "dwarves" and "humans", there are different races that have different bonuses that are quite closely associated with what we know to be their bonuses.

Like there is a race of forest dwelling people who have better senses and and are tall lithe and etc. etc..

So while they might all fall under the category of Mann, they resemble elves and dwarves and other races, just like Daemons are basically dragons, but in Elyria, they don't know what Dragons are, they're caled Daemons.

Vamprism is the tough part, I would suggest starting your not dear to heart character first, learning about vamprism and how to acquire, then starting her.

OR

I think a cool option would be to extend her backstory by having your first char be one of Nama's ancestors, and once you know how to get Vamprism, that's when you play through as Nama.

Hello Valupeh! Thank you for your thoughtful comments, I really appreciate it

Yes, I have lost interest in ESO now too - it is an excellent game but I struggled to get into endgame as they always moved the goalposts too fast (too many DLCs). In the end, when my RP died off and real life took over, I lost all drive to log on anymore.

I'm so glad to hear that Nama's "elvish" aspects aren't unattainable in CoE - I'm not attached at all to the physical characteristics (pointed ears etc.) but Nama's character is built around her racial attributes so I'm definitely pleased they will transfer.

Re: your idea of creating her ancestor first - what a great idea! I hadn't even considered that. Although, that said, I am really, really missing her so I don't think I will be able to resist the temptation of creating her ASAP haha...

Lore-wise from ESO it is possible to attain a cure for vampirism, so it is more than possible for Nama to become cured. In fact, it would probably fit with her story too as she hates her vampiric sire and is engaged to be married to a mortal.

However, I am not really comfortable with Nama dying. I am so attached to her, I couldn't bear it. (At least, not yet). Is there any lore on reincarnation in CoE? I suppose someone must have come up with always re-creating the same character, but I also suspect that it would definitely be frowned upon in RP communities as a huge part of CoE is about aging and dying. Reincarnation would defeat the purpose...

Reincarnation is the whole basis of CoE.
While Nama's physical body will pass on, her soul will retain the experiences of her past life and those skills will scale more quicklier.
And while it's tough to let go of a beloved character, I think that's what is so cool about CoE. Like if you've every read a book, or watched a series, and at the end you thought "that was soooo goood" and think, but what about their kids, and family and other characters in their life, what happens to them?

Take Harry Potter for example, Harry's story is done, he fulfilled his destiny and now works as an Auror, so who do we care about now, if the series continued it's about his kid and how Harry's story affected his family. And while other stories may end, CoE lets the player continue on by playing through not only your first character's story, but thier offsprings' as well.

Amiira,

From what little I've read (I'm poring over all the sites that have info, speculative or not), I don't foresee a problem of Nama being reincarnated.

With how the soul retains the skills and talents you pick up from life to life (especially since they said that for one to become a master or legendary anything will require multiple lives), remembering who you were previously should be right up there with remembering your skills.

I think it would be a fun element to rp through.

Another option to consider:

There is a book series by Wesley Chu, the Tao series, about aliens that have existed on planet earth since their ship crashed and killed the dinosaurs.  They had to form a symbiotic existence with any animal life on Earth because their physical form couldn't survive in Earth's atmosphere.

I can envision our souls being the same thing, but with a fantasy tilt instead of sci-fi.

Hmmm.... interesting thoughts, both of you.... thank you!

It will definitely be an interesting element to explore IC and to incorporate without it feeling like an "I-WIN" button haha..... I think any reincarnation mechanic should definitely be used sensitively as otherwise it might cause issues IC and OOC.

If you check out the table at the bottom of the front page post there's a concept for a 'wyrding place' (i called it) for the feyer type of characters. Perhaps yours could start as a slightly feraline character very elfy/druidy type focus. Would set off some interesting Rp with the more mainstream characters
