We'll see if this is the announcement they have yet to make. No word as of the time of this post. Really good news if true though.

I'm guessing that is probably true. That goes a long way in answering my question about how they will be able to support such a large scale persistent world.

Maybe I'm completely off on this, but I thought scaling out to that degree with SpatialOS was incredibly expensive, though... Unless they have worked out some sort of deal with AWS for a greatly decreased price. Which honestly makes sense on Amazon's part... If SBS is successful in doing this, there will be a huge demand for doing the same in the future.

edit: actually now that i think about it... you can scale up and down AWS on the fly. All they'd need is some sort of monitor to check the threshold on how many people are actually in game and in a given location. Any area that is mainly OPC and NPC running scripts could be greatly scaled down on hardware needed since on-the-fly complex calculations would be few and far between. When more activity is going on in a certain area, they just up the power and/or scale out to an additional server, which could then be dropped when it's no longer needed.

Sorry for nerding out, lol. I can definitely see how this could work, though.

As an update, SBS confirmed this news on the official site. In terms of the funding for it, they did kick this off with 500k of their own money initially, and have apparently been in talks with Improbable for 6 months to work out a deal.

Thanks for the info, Rhuvian. I don't check the main site daily, so I probably wouldn't have seen this for a while.

Too bad they couldn't have released this info 2 weeks ago... it would likely have delivered a big punch for the CoE Kickstarter. It may still have an impact with 2 days left, but probably a smaller one.

Hopefully this will create enough of a stir that the game will gain notoriety even after the Kickstarter has ended.
