Quoteso from all I'm guessing a forum RP thread for how we all found each other is out?

I think yes? Unless there are objections or someone has another idea.

Another way a tavern story can work, not everyone needs to be at a tavern at once. Maybe it's a tavern we have all frequented, or visited once passing through, but in this tavern the Barkeep is a main proponent for Norhiem, so everyone that enters usually hears about it.

I have no issue with the tavern concept. I'm imagining Harkon as being out in the world, serving as a hired guard for merchants. His last job ended up with him in the tavern and he's been looking for work elsewhere.

You could always use the cliche stranded in a storm where we setup?
Things that could serve various identifying things, town monument is a lodestone, we all wear a piece of jewelry that is a chunk of invaluable of stone with a key phrase, by the light that failed us. And so on.

To tie in with your tavern idea, was that the ship had a load of kegs that kept us together as we discussed how we'd begin a new.

Gonna wait to write my backstory after this is sorted out

OK so there are some great thoughts above (esp amiiras literary concepts which i really enjoyed!).  How about we kick this off.

Personally, i felt just the 'tavern' tale was enough of an IC reason or already disaffected people to try and build something new. But there's a lot of interest in RP forums to develop a tale which i didn't really expect so we can throw it out and start again through the forums. That could be fun and perhaps to help pass the time of  the next 12 months lol.

I guess taking part in the Forum RP an optional thing so if it's not your bag then you can just note when you join the Kin or wait till the last minute.

Below is a suggested arc which provides the main thrust of how Norheim as a concept, and then as a Kinship, and then as a physical place, came to be.  Perhaps having this overarching arc will allow a bit of focus for the RP forum without limiting it.

It starts all 'Northman-ish' as that was the basis, and links to the emerging mythology/religion tales, but that should not put anyone off who doesn't want to be northman as will emerge later in the story arc.

The below will be filled out in 'story' form of course.

Background (pre RP forum - maybe first post?):

1) Stromhiem was a legendary city of power, wealth and culture where the 'Descendants of Fror' were said to rule the Northlands.  Many, but not all, of the scattered Clans of the north hold to the legend of Fror and tell stories of Stromhiem.

2) Incursion of the 'southern kings and ways' and infighting between the Clans as they slip from their proud histories drive a number of young clansmen to listen more carefully to these tales and dream of this lost greatness. From a village, several youths  to seek out other young clansmen from nearby villages and Clans known to hold to the old stories, to discuss seeking out Stromhiem.

People who want to start their involvement in the story here will most likely be northmen and be from the surrounding villages of northmen Clans.  I plan to be there and if you want you CAN be from the same village as my character (read my quick story here  - note i can change my story to include others names if they want to be the 'cousins' or friends in this tale) and could identify as Descendants of Fror (read   here) to give some justification for throwing their lives away and setting off anew to find this new place.

RP forum starts here:

3) The idea
This group meets in a town and agrees to forge a new path and rediscover Stromhiem, or rebuild it if it cannot be found. At the very least they want to escape the growing influence of the 'Kings' and their laws. They discuss their shortcomings and what they will need to know, the resources they'll need and who they will need to help. They notice some immediately useful and already known people (eg they could have been drinking at this feasthall for years and know the lass who runs it and notes she hates her landlord for example...)

(others may choose to join here, generally of Northman background, but also others)

4) The quests
They know they need to do things which may include:
- seek our knowledge of where Stromhiem was (maybe even asking non-northmen historians)
- build up enough cash/resources/animals to allow it through negotiation, inviting new kin or even raiding
- find explorers to help locate a good place
- find craftsmen
- etc

What these quests are can be developed through the RP forum. Here several splinter stories and separate RP threads can start as some of you have thought about. We can let this stage go for X months and people can join through them from all over Elyria either by direct contact wiht the story, or because of 'wisps of rumours' (love that prase).

People, non-northman and northmen alike, along the way here will join for their own reasons and begin to see the focus of Norhiem shift from a "rebuild stromhiem" focus, to a more general "build our own place away from the current kingdoms rules". Sure some will stay very norse focussed, but this place is for all

5) The gathering
They all gather at the same place and head off. (end of the separate quests threads). To be RPed. Maybe this could be the 'Tavern Story' but re-written by us all.  At this stage, they have identified the approximate region they want to set up in.

This is where the 'wyrd' is also made confirming equal roles and so on.

Maybe this, and the next step, is the time where our Kickstarter Counts and Barons come into play offering land and resources as they join the Kinship themselves. Of course a baron or count COULD have been part of it the whole time and (shock and amazement) happens to be the heir to some of the lands identified but never visited as it was so far out of the way.

6) The journey
They travel through the country and when they find the place.  On the way there can be adventures (see amiiras excellent post on the previous page) and others join.  This would also be where those who currently reside in the area as squatters, farmers, hunters, wildmen etc may join.

7) Founding
This will be a discussion about the specific design and positioning and approach to building Norhiem immediately before Exposition.  This will be done so that when we load up in game and arrive seeing several buildings, there is an IC reason for them being there.  It will be done once we all have seen to prototypes of the UI and land allocation process and those with assets to place can take screeenshots and so on so we can discuss as Kin.

8 ) The game (exposition) begins...

We can set timelines for each step (eg a week for 'the gathering&#39 so everyone has the opportunity to contribute before we move on.

I THINK that allows for everyones ideas from the above two pages to happen, and doesn't require anyone to be a part of anything (eg my background or others backgrounds or religions) to be part of it.

So. Let me know what yo think and we can get started!

Loving this Dorn. I would personally love to jump into the RP very early on as it's going to fit my concept best, and I just love to RP anyway. I can certainly have him be from the same town/area as you are. He is a Northman and part of a simple family of farmers/butchers (something like, haven't nailed it down) and will immediately be jumping at the opportunity to stake his claim.

I like it!

I assume it will be ok to run an individual thread paralleling the Kinship story and then merge it in at a point where it makes sense to meet up? Or maybe that was mentioned and I missed it...

My fingers have gotten itchy after thinking about the possibilities for my character(s)

I love this all Dorn. I know I'm ready to jump into this. I know my character has done research into the lore and history of the north and that is a part what has drawn him to this. He is of northern heritage and cant wait to delve into the north and try and discover the forgotten mysteries of the north.

It's great that we can RP our characters...I am all in on this too.

I have a background with dwarves and elves. I love playing a stout dwarven character who is from the northern snowy area. That is one of the reasons I love the lore of Norheim. Faring from the northern, cold part of the world...perhaps there are mountains around us to further protect us from the cruelty that could come. We should be a sturdy people, who are more immune to the effects of cold weather. A natural toughness that comes from being Nordic folk.

I'm definitely hoping we can a mountainous, forest region we can settle into. Makes us much more defensible and hopefully we can control mine(s) that way too. Just needs a good river to settle around!

I think the idea of a northern coast sounds great. The ideas of mountainous terrain and near water I would agree are very important.

To this point, it seems like it might be anice advantage to the native Northman with the resistance to the elements. I know it was talked about that family genes will have traits that have adapted to surroundings as well as the obvious skills and appearance. This means those playing outsiders may have a tougher time during the winter. We'll have to make sure to make extra blankets for the silly southerners

So it seems most everyone's agreed on the RP. So do we do it here in a forum or on Discord?

I think forum would allow everyone to get involved equally. While Discord would be fast paced, it would also mean that anyone not on during said fast-pacedness would be left in the duest.

Yea discord is a no go for the RP. We have a lot of time anyway, a whole lot, so really no rush. We should take our time with it, make it in depth and personable.

I'd also suggest a forum thread for the main story arc, with open/closed parallel threads for individual stories running into and out of the central story. however, I know some people are more into the immediacy of f2f/chat RP so I'm sure they could use a Discord channel (or Skype or whatever else ) for individual scenes in their storylines. I personally do both - but when I do chat scenes, I make sure to chatlog them so I can rewrite them as stories or post them if need be.

Soo...... is anyone going to start this thread? are we waiting for something? Dokdar, Orod, Alisyah, are you going to do the honours?

(I'm happy to kick it off if nobody else wants to, let me know. )
