The other day I was talking to someone in Discord and this came up:

"The Chained are coming to try and make us kneel before their human gods"

The chained as a reference to the people that subject themselves to Kings and Duques, and the human gods being the nobles in general.

Also I've been researching and working on some silly salutations and farewells

  • May your sails be full of wind
  • May your feet be dry on winter
  • May your eyes see many moons
  • May you see your children's children.
  • May you be poor in misfortunes
  • May your beard grow ever longer
  • May your feet find good trails
  • May your doom be other than mine
  • May your your treasure remain with you to the end
  • May your friends be as loyal as your horses
  • May you bear many scars and twice as many wrinkles
  • May your heart stop your tongue from betraying (about the Kinship secrets)

One fun one I came up with was

"May Skjorta's blessing fall on you"

Which basically would mean go fuck yourself/I hope you die.

Skraeling (Skræling) and Orlendr are old norse words for stranger and outlander/foreigner respectively. We can very well use those. I think slang and jargon should extend beyond greetings. I would love to see, through this "slang/jargon thread" the pseudo-emergence of a mini-language made from simple slang. It's entirely possible.

"I sell my wares, wherever I stare, and at whatever I stare, it's mine I swear. I sell them for cheap, for I believe that is fair, so if you've come to buy, good brother pull up a chair."

I couldn't sit my big ginger ass and read the current state on religion, but I feel it'd be a great source of Jargons, like the one above. I liked it that it feels like a blessing but you're actually cursing the person. Let's try and use some of these while chatting on discord or here and make up some more as we go. It's a fun way of coming up with new stuff. For example, "Beautiful as a dancing Orod"

I love so many of these suggestions already. I'll keep an eye out while we keep writing the religion, might pick up some more we can use.

This one's an absolute pearl @Arbor

"May Skjorta's blessing fall on you"

Which basically would mean go fuck yourself/I hope you die.

I think there are supposed to be 7 gods for ye crazed Northmen, right? So something quick and simple could be a common "passby" phrase. Like:

Seven Blessings - meaning may you be blessed by all 7 gods

Or if it's 9 gods, Nine Blessings... whatever you Northmen have.

For a sort of swearing... find something from your religion distinctive about your gods. For instance one has a big-ass beard, a common curse could be "By <god's> beard!" (stolen from Master Kilvin - Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss lol). The same goes for if a god carries a distinctive weapon, etc.

I think anything that starts with "May <something something> happen" would be more of a formal greeting (or cursing) used during a ceremony or when meeting/greeting an outsider. Typically a greeting/cursing among friends is shortened and bastardized from it's original form. For instance "God's blessing upon you and your family" (or something similar) turned into "God bless".

Just my 2 norens... I don't follow your crazy religion

I always liked "Andraste's Tits!" from Dragon Age. I gigglesnorted the first time someone said that.
